The project “Experience vocational training in Germany 2014-2015” was created in cooperation of the Coordination Centre Czech-German Youth Exchange Tandem Plzen and 9 Czech schools plus their German counterparts. This project followed a number of successful projects within the Leonardo da Vinci programme and projects supported by the Czech-German Future Fund. These mobility projects are part of “The Vocational training support programme” by Tandem, its reciprocal character is an advantage, ensured by Tandem Regensburg. Main objectives of the project included “Experience vocational training in Germany 2014-2015” increasing the number of mobility actions for pupils and apprentices in initial vocational education that shall contribute to higher quality of vocational training at European level and to the mutual recognition of vocational education in Europe. With its impact the project aimed at increasing the awareness about cross-border training placement projects and at awakening an interest of general public in activities abroad. Training placement abroad was always of benefit to the individual trainees, who had a chance, to compare their experience with vocational training in the Czech Republic. They were familiar with different work methods and procedures, they gained practical experience in an environment, where a foreign language is spoken, they developed key competencies and, most importantly, with regard to their personal qualities. The trainees learned to deal with the language barrier, they broaden their professional knowledge and skills; they became more self-dependent and could orientate themselves better in the European Labour Market. Project consisted of 9 mobility actions with a planned number of 43 participants in the following vocational training fields: tool setter, forestry equipment operator, bricklaying and construction, trade, economics and management, administration, banking and information technology. The project activities were framed by a Czech coordinators’ project meeting, during which they were informed about the administrative requirements and practical tips on training placement preparation and realization. The project period was concluded by an evaluation meeting attended by representatives of all the mobility actions. Its aim was to analyse the individual steps and activities within the project. Between the initial and the evaluation meeting, all project activities took place. An important part of the project was mutual, continuous communication between the partner organisations and with Tandem. The sending organizations selected participants and prepared them (mentally and professionally) for the training placement. The selected participants took part in language and (inter)cultural training in form of language animation, which was provided by an experienced animator trained by Tandem. In course of the training placements the trainees were mentored and tutored; the training placement and the project as a whole was evaluated continuously. All responsible organizations monitored the training placement programme and its participants. During the training placement and after its termination, its results were disseminated. The dissemination continued also after the project termination. In course of the project period, Tandem supervised a successful progress of the activities, provided support to the partner organisations and led them to achieving the set objectives. The expected project outcomes include the recognition of training placement abroad as a standard part of the educational system at the participating schools, contribution to the increase in mobility in vocational training, and motivating other Czech and German organisations to carry out similar activities. It expected that the following key competencies of the participants will be developed: improvement of language skills, widening of professional knowledge and skills, gaining new experience, personal development and motivation to self-initiated development of learning skills and motivation to life long learning. The traineeship abroad increased their chances with regard to their future employment in their vocational training field in Europe. In the long term, the project’s benefit consists in providing support to vocational schools and organisations that offer vocational education to pupils and apprentices within the Vocational training support programme and beyond it. Each project has a positive impact in the sense that new schools become motivated to get involved in transnational cooperation and to organise training placements abroad, not only in the neighbouring country.
