"MusXchange" - EFNYO Mobility of Pre-Professional Musicians Programme
Start date: May 1, 2012,

The EFNYO Mobility of Pre-Professional Musicians Programme “MusXchange” points at a deficit in the training, and hence mobility of pre-professional musicians in the EU, which can be summarised as a lack of support for short-term mobility programmes in professional orchestra and ensemble training. The reasons for this may be various, but have primarily resulted from the emphasis on long-term educational schemes funded by EU-programmes such as ERASMUS, including the development of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which, in the wake of the Bologna process, gave enormous incentives for long-term studies abroad. In addition, LEONARDO, originally devised for short-term mobility projects, can no longer be used for training and professional exchange projects with durations of less than three months. The concept which we propose will cover up to 130 musicians sent and hosted within the EFNYO network over a period of 24 months starting from May 01, 2012, and is working on the basis of short-term mobility projects in ensemble and orchestral training of between 10 days and 6 weeks. The exchange projects will be coordinated and administered by the EFNYO secretariat (based in Vienna) and implemented with the participation of 8 co-organisers (Joven Orquesta Nacional de Espana/ Spain, Orchestre Francais des Jeunes/ France, Orchestra Giovanile Italiana/ Italy, Wiener Jeunesse Orchester/ Austria, National Youth Orchestra of Scotland/ UK, Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra / CY, Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra / FI, Dutch Orchestra and Ensemble Academy) / NL, covering all national EFNYO member orchestras and further professional training institutions such as music universities/ conservatoires and music centres, especially in EU-countries where national youth orchestras do not (yet) exist.Besides the activities in short-term training programmes, the project will involve innovative methodology and extensive evaluation methods.
