Music without borders
Start date: Oct 31, 2003, End date: Dec 30, 2004 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project, resulting from the intercultural cooperation of the Slovenian Minority in Italy and the Italian Minority in Slovenia, targets the field of the conservation and promotion of the musical heritage as well as the professional training of musicians residing in the cross-border area. The project aims primarily at the creation of a Documentation Centre for the filing, preservation, study and promotion of music across Friuli Venezia Giulia - and, particularly, Trieste - and the Republic of Slovenia. The Centre is hosted by Glasbena Matica, that for over almost a century has been directly involved in the musical life of the area and is the repository of a significant wealth of documentary evidence. The training programme, defined in cooperation with Zveza Primorskih Glasbenih Šol, aims at creating opportunities to showcase young talents from the border area, by allowing them to attend courses with a high artistic content and enabling them to participate in a cross-border cooperation framework, within an area that is more and more integrated. Specifically, the project aims at creating a cross-border accordion orchestra and the organisation of a Masterclass, i.e. a specialisation course for classic guitar. The closing event is the concert of the symphony orchestra of the students of the Union of Musical Schools of the Italian and Slovenian Coastline, with a double performance first intended for schooling institutions and then for the public at large.
