"Multiculturalism: when the other becomes my mirror"

The programme has become an initiative from a group of eight young adults who are attending the Alternative School of Kethea, Ariadni situated in Iraklion, Crete. This initiative, with a duration of 6 months, has to do with the publication of a magazine entitled 'Spira". The magazine's theme will deal with racial issues and how to overcome them; and how the local community is affected with immigration issues .The participants will be researching the social phenomenon of immigration( reasons, social adjustment, multiple identities, the procedure of fitting in as an individual attempt, multiculturism a basic human right. The methodology and techniques that will be used for the research and the accumulation of the material for the magazine will be based on teaching techniques applicable for the education of adults such as visits to areas of interests ,interviews from specialists in the relevant field concerning immigration issues, coming in contact with "foreign" associations so as to get to know them better (their customs, traditions)to compare possible similarities or differences amongst nations ,to watch films on immigration themes.The aim of this initiative is for young adults who have had less opportunities to gain knowledge, skills, which will help enhance their personal development and their social adjustment into society again, helping them to be part of society as active citizens in the era of globalization and multiculturism.
