Multiculturalism is beautiful!
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background of project is the situation in Europe and Finland. Lots of people in the Third World are escaping their home countries in order to find safer place in Europe. Because of this we have initiated our project, whose objectives are to make Finns to understand, how and why society is changing, why there are many refugees seeking asylum in Finland and why migration is growing. Also we must help refugees and other migrants to integrate to local society. There will be 1 volunteer in our project from Hungary. The volunteer is internationally oriented young person, who wants to help in building up a better and multicultural society. At the same time the volunteer will learn lots of things, like language, international orientation, how to live independently and how to work in the team.Activities are linked with migration from the side of migrants and from the side of local inhabitants. We shall organise sport activities, where everybody will be welcomed. By arranging clubs we shall give kids possibility to learn new abilities, like drawing, and we shall give local Finns and migrants a possibility to discuss with each other and to learn from each others. Via youth house work and puppet theatre performances we shall show kids and teenagers the importance of internationalism and help to understand, how and why society is changing. Arranging activities with anti-racist activity group we shall raise up the understanding in the whole society about meaning of helping everybody in the society. As a methodology we shall use a direct work with the target groups; not being afraid of communication with other people, but going to work with them. Understanding others' opinions and learning from them will help us to make our work better. As the results of the project there will be a much more open and tolerate atmosphere in the society. Young people will understand the meaning of internationalism and it will help them a lot in their future life. Local kids will get lots of good feelings about the puppet theatre. Refugees and other migrants will feel much safer while staying in Pori. Communication between local Finns and migrants will become more active and lively. As a longer term benefits local Finns and migrants will understand, that living with each other in peace will benefit to everyone. Atmosphere will become more free and open. Young people will get lots of resources for their future life in the multicultural society and world.
