Start date: Aug 3, 2015, End date: Feb 2, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The youth exchange “Multi-Generation. Finding our identity” has been developed in partnership with the associations: Utrikespolitiska föreningen i Göteborg based in Göteborg (Sweden), Associação de Defesa do Património Cultural e Natural de Soure (ADPCNS) based in Soure (Portugal), Asociatia Tinerilor Activi Civic (A.T.A.C.) based in Galati (Romania), Association Caravanes d’Espoir d’el Guattar (ACEG) based in Medenine (Tunisia). We also involved two informal groups: Young Pioneers Society (SOYOP) based in in Istanbul (Turkey) and Cross Culture Youth Group (CCYG) in Cairo (Egypt). The mobility will take place in Palermo (Sicily) from the 4th to 11th of November 2015 (travel days included) and it will last six days. We foresee to involve 42 young people between 18-30 years old (5+1 group leader per country). Gender balance will be guaranteed. The general objective is to increase the knowledge on the phenomenon of migration in all its forms and the opportunities that it offers as contact between different people and cultures, in the direction of an intercultural development of the participants. To achieve the objective of the project, we will use the methodology of intercultural learning as a mean to prevent and combat racism, xenophobia, prejudice and intolerance. The project will contribute to understand as the migration’s phenomenon is not only a problem but also an opportunity of reflection and action in order to build e to make possible a society more and more intercultural. During the exchange, non-formal education tools like self-awareness exercises, role playing and simulation activities will be organized in order to understand the opportunities of an intercultural Europe. The participants will debate on the sense of multiple identity of the migrants, the possible intercultural conflicts and the process of assimilation, integration and social exclusion. We foresee to realize various types of activities that facilitate dialogue among the participants addressing issues such as freedom of expression, thought, conscience and religion. The project aims to enhance the attitudes of self-esteem and confidence, to explore new contests, to meet new people, to be curious, to have enterprising spirit. It will improve the debate’s attitude and the intercultural exchange, self-knowledge and awareness of one's emotions, the quality of interpersonal communication and the development of a self-critical attitude. They will acquire personal, interpersonal and intercultural knowledges and competences useful to their personal growth to understand the complexity of the modern reality. Discovering cultural diversities we will illustrate the relativity of personal opinions and cultural background that influences interpretations and evaluations. During the final event of the project, that will involve the local community, young people in particular, the participants could show photos and videos that represent their point of view on the phenomenon of migration and interculture. This will give the participants the opportunity to get in touch with the local population and it will be an important moment of common reflection about stereotypes and prejudices. This event will be, besides an important moment of dissemination of project’s results, an occasion to see the opportunities provided by the European Commission through the Erasmus Plus Programme.
