Münchner Filmwerkstatt
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project Münchner Filmwerkstatt e. V. The scheme offered a European volunteer from the Ukraine the opportunity to gain practical experience in the Müncher Filmwerkstatt e. V. for 12 months within the scope of projects. The volunteer had the chance to explore the sectors cinema culture, media education and film making and to discover creative tasks all the while gaining practical work-, study- and life-related experience. The projects offered the volunteer a broad spectrum of various possibilities to actively participate with creativity and entrepreneurial initiative and to gain competence in the German language as well as in the media field. Furthermore, the volunteer had the chance to boost her own cultural awareness and her own cultural expressiveness by communicating with many creative people from the cultural landscape of the film sector. The Youth in Action programme funds the EVS placement with an amount of Euro 8,444.00 in total. Further Education Activity In its own training studio ‘film.coop’, the Münchner Filmwerkstatt offers further education opportunities for film professionals and all those aspiring to become one. The programme comprises options regarding all trades in front of and behind the camera. It consists of seminars (usually taking place at weekends) and training courses. Practitioners from the film industry give the seminars and courses in accordance with our guiding principles. The courses are offered part or full time and the participation in these courses receives public support in various forms. The Münchner Filmwerkstatt has the certifications necessary for it. There is an honorary board as well as a permanent employee on site for the organisation of our offering. Here, we give European volunteers the chance to support the organisation and the execution of the seminars and training courses, thus benefiting themselves from the learning opportunities for their own professional orientation. Our volunteer had the chance to gain practical experience in the organisation, the preparation, the follow-up and the support of lecturers and participants as well as in the field of public relation for film workshops and film seminars. The supervision of those workshops and seminars is traditionally the responsibility of volunteers at the Münchner Filmwerkstatt e. V. While doing so, the volunteer got to know many different event formats, contents and methods. Furthermore, she gained insights into various aspects of film and television – from script development, financing and organisation of film projects to light, sound, camera, directing and acting. She was able to establish a lot of contacts to lecturers and participants, who are all – to a greater or less extent – actively involved in the cultural scene of independent film makers. Together with them, she prepared, for instance, an event, arranged the room, provided catering, set up the technical equipment and demounted it afterwards, supported the material supply, assessed evaluation sheets, assisted in the documentation of all the processes on the Intranet platform TWiki and took on the role of the host for the seminar that she chose to supervise. Short Film Festival Activity In addition to our further education activities, we also offer the opportunity to take a look at other projects of the Münchner Filmwerkstatt e. V., such as the film makers’ network meetings or the KALIBER35 Munich International Short Film Festival. The Münchner Filmwerkstatt has organised this annual festival since 2006 – exclusively through voluntary work. In 2012, the project opened to the European Voluntary Service. Our volunteers are at the heart of the festival team and assist in the creation, the planning and the implementation of the festival. The multicultural environment in Munich’s Westend, numerous participants from Austria and Switzerland as well as the young people from other countries involved through the European Voluntary Service form the background for the ongoing dealing with real-life topics by means of film. In this way and by including the European volunteers, our projects support the mutual understanding, the solidarity and the tolerance of young people. Within the scope of the project outlined here, the European volunteer Maryna Lysytsia from the Ukraine spent twelve months supporting the further development formats of the Münchner Filmwerkstatt e. V.
