Mr. Sea
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Dec 16, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Mr. Sea is a youth exchange that will involve 24 young people for six days in Porto Salvo (Vibo Valentia, Calabria), on the Coast of the Gods. Porto Salvo is near to the beach and its climate is very mild , so it is possible go on excursions and sporting with the aim of spreading the message that humans are closely related with the environment and how their happiness depends on a healthy lifestyle in a healthy environment . Young people between 18 and 25 years old from Italy, Croatia and Turkey come from different socio-economic background, but they all come from areas of the sea and are strongly influenced by it . The choice of the partnership is not random, but it is the clear intention of involving an original member of the EU (Italy), a new member (Croatia) and a candidate member (Turkey) , in order to give a more complete idea about the role of sea in our European society and how it can be a symbol of the functioning of the European Union and the opportunities it gives to young people. Making a simple analysis on the importance of the Mediterranean Sea, we found that there is a strong element of similarity with the stories and adventures that have taken place across the sea and a common site of many civilizations, but it was a means of mobility and then a place of communication and culture. It is a place full of wealth and opportunity because the man draws sustenance from it, is a wonderful place with its natural beauty and biodiversity, a place that must be respected. We will use the sea as a metaphor of the opportunities and European instruments. Activities will be linked to the maritime sector, but of course to European content. The sea is the historical place of communication , discovery and opportunit, and this is another factor that led to the desire to write this project, which provides a good opportunity to discover Europe, communicate with it and seize the opportunities that offers. During the project we will develop topics related to the sea and the environment, to learn something from it and how to protect it. In this way, participants will be able to tackle the issues through the method of non formal education. Each task has certain objectives and specific learning outcomes that participants will reach through meetings, role play, group and individual task, workshops, games and others activities in accordance with the formula of " learning by doing" that will allow themto learn through practice. The working groups will always be with participants of mixed nationality in order to facilitate intercultural learning and foster the creation of a European dimension, individual and group. Our project is aimed at: general objectives - Creation of a European awareness aimed at making European citizenship a reality felt and acknowledged ; - Appreciation of cultural diversity through the possible confrontation between several countries on several fronts ; - Active participation of young people to make positive agents of change; specific objectives - Facilitate mutual understanding between young people of different nationalities - Be aware of their role in Europe; - Allow participants to re-evaluate the accuracy of their stereotypes and become aware of how these affect their lives and their attitude ; - Promote tolerance and appreciation of diversity as a source of wealth in multicultural societies ; - Active participation of young people in society; - Susceptibility to mobility; - Access to European opportunities ; - Learn about new forms of learning. The project will affect both the young participants and the local community will have a strong impact on them, which will have a positive effect in the long term . What we want to achieve is that participants feel closer and more involved as possible in the European dynamics in a definitive manner and with long-term effects. Non-formal method will facilitate the learning that will hardly be forgotten thanks to its experiential part . The project will bring benefits to the community who will get closer to an alternative approach to issues that are often not treated and when it is done, it is done in a formal way. Everybody ill surely be attracted by the alternative method with which European issues will be dealt with. Thanks to the means "sea", so familiar, even these issues, often too far away and incomprehensible, seem to be matter every day.
