Moving people
Start date: May 2, 2016, End date: May 1, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Suomen Nuorisoseurat - The Finnish Youth Association, has a long history of youth exchanges. With this exchange, or camp as we like to call it, we're adamant to carry on this torch of tradition. However, with each camp, we tackle on currently relevant challenges such as immigration, unemployment or unecological living standards. In this project, we will settle in Joutsa, a village located in Central Finland. For the last two days of the camp, we'll also visit Helsinki, Finland's capital city, exploring its multicultural services and facilities. The camp itself will take place 23.7.-3.8.2016 and we'll have 14 participants and 2 leaders from Germany and Finland each, 32 in total. The "Moving People" -exchange is primarily aimed at 14-20 year old youths. We'll concentrate on the themes of employment abroad, immigration and assimilation to a foreign country and culture. We aim working towards building the odds of employment in the youths' favor. We'll strengthen their self-esteem, practical, social and linguistic skills through discussion-based group workshops, physical tasks such as campsite construction, other outdoors skills and the taking of responsibility of the campsite. The "lingua franca", or the main language of the camp will be English, which will both improve the youths' linguistic skills but also lower the threshold to use english in their everyday lives after the camp has ended. We'll cooperate and socialize with the local people and also get familiar with the local youth association and their work.We want the participants to leave the camp with pride, with newfound skills, strength and self-esteem. We want them to realize that their voices are important and can be heard. We want them to find beauty in nature and respect it, and that they carried responsibility for the success of the camp as much as anyone, and succeeded gloriously. And best of all - they have the Youthpass to show for it.Even with the camp over, the participants can continue to keep in touch with each other through a facebook group we have created. The youths will also produce a Blog during the exchange which will then be used in after-camp dissemination.
