Movilidad para la mejora de la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project of mobility for the ELT improvement is included in our European Development Plan and our Quality of Education improvement project. On the other hand, we are involved in a Bilingual Education Project in Infant and Primary Education, approved by the Consejería de Educación de Cantabria and, following our Quality of Education improvement project, we are also implementing the CLIL methodology gradually in our Secondary Education Curriculum. Therefore, our school is open to foreign languages; in fact, we also teach French as a second language from Year 3, our students go on exchanges and trips abroad, we have native language teaching assistants...We have participated in three Comenius Projects and our teachers have been training for a long time in the activities that are expected to be developed in the project: exchange teaching experiences and get in touch with other teachers and organizations, improve English communication skills, learn new CLIL methodologies. The participants are one Infant teacher, two Primary teachers and three Secondary teachers. All of them teach English and different subjects in that language. The core of the project was born in a staff meeting, where some teaching training needs and the improvement of communication and pedagogical skills were noticed, very related to the European Development Plan, our Quality of Education Improvement Project and the Bilingual Education Project. The expected results and impact are positive, speaking about the students' output and improvement of linguistic skills as well as the teachers' linguistic and methodological competence. Those benefits are expected in a short, medium and long term. The effects will be reflected in a short term on the teachers' linguistic competences, which will have an immediate impact on the teaching strategies. In a medium and long term, we expect an upgrade in our students' marks, whose results are a bit below the average. This experience has also enabled us to share new methodological strategies with all the teaching staff, thanks to the exchange of knowledge. We have also shared these enriching experiences with colleagues from other educative establishments held by the regional Teachers Resources Centre from Cantabria. Another positive effect is the successful fulfillment of our Bilingual Education and Quality of Education improvement projects. This experience is helping us achieve our students' full communicative and linguistic competence in foreign languages, as well as the development of the intercultural, social and civic competences in an european context.
