More ICT in Classrooms

Dimotiko Scholeio Potamias, which operates with a small number pupils, has set the goal of acquisition and improvement of ICT skills of teachers and pupils. During the school year 2015-2016, 23 students will attend the school and three teachers will be working full time. Teachers are characterized by experience in European projects, good use of technology, postgraduate qualifications and desire for continuous learning. The title of the project proposed is "More ICT in Classrooms" and the aims of the project are to improve the digital competence of pupils and teachers, to exchange good practices among European teachers, to acquire knowledge and experience for other educational systems, to improve communication and language skills and to strengthen European identity and awareness. The project includes planned activities within the school and mobilities in countries of the European Union . Teachers will participate in structured training courses and in "Job shadowing" activities and will cooperate with two host organizations. They will participate in training courses of Educational Training Centre ITC International entitled "Teaching through 21st Century Methodologies" and "ICT in Education Course". Through their participation the teachers will be informed on new Internet trends, new teaching methods, available online tools and resources to implement into an e-lesson. They will also get into contact with European teachers. Furthermore, in Basisschool De Verwondering in Netherlands the teachers will participate into "Job Shadowing" activities. This school uses advanced technological equipment for teaching in conditions 1: 1. The observations and the monitoring will give participants the experience of getting familiar with other educational systems and to obtain good practices. The host school at the same time will be benefited from the participants, since they will make presentations on Cyprus and its education system. Teachers will implement new methods, ideas and practices, that will derive from the mobilities, in teaching. Colleagues and parents will have the opportunity to observe the lessons. The experience and acquired knowledge and skills will be integrated into the curriculum of the school. The teachers will dedicate time on staff meetings for the preparation of the work plan and organization of activities to be carried out at school. Regular, ongoing assessments will be carried out to record the pupils perspectives in order to redesign the work plan. Ιnitial and final evaluation, at the beginning and end of the project, will show the extend of achievement of the project aims. The project will have an impact on teachers and pupils of the school. Teachers will be benefited by participating in training programs. With the implement of new methods and ideas and the use of technology, pupils will develop and improve their ICT skills and improve their learning outcomes. The school will be benefited, since the curriculum will be enriched with new technologies and methods and internationalization. Most importantly, the participants will broaden their horizons, they will be able to get involved in European projects such as eTwinning and Erasmus +, and become more active members of the European family.
