Mon école est en Europe
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "My school is in Europe" is built by the whole team in our school : l’école Thiers de Quimperlé. We strongly wish to improve our practices in teaching (foreign) languages and in turn to enable our pupils to improve, by intensifying their practice of the English language through its use in other disciplines and more widely we wish to enhance their awareness and sense of belonging to Europe. Our school, is particular as it welcomes children with disabilities, children of foreign nationals linked to the CADA (Asylum Seekers Welcome Centre), and its sensitivity to linguistic diversity reinforced by two bi-lingual classes, the school feels the need to a better understanding of the difficulties encountered by some of its pupils and families when they are faced with the barrier of communicating and understanding the French language. To that effect we wish to immerse ourselves in the practices developed in English speaking countries. The necessity to secure access to the training course provided by the ERASMUS agency seems therefore essential. This “mobility” experience will be an opportunity to collect a wide range of useful materials to support the implementation of this project : English youth literature, authentic documents (flyers, advertisement, wrappers, entry tickets, transports….)Throughout the year, with the involvement of the local secondary school, we will put together a project resulting in the production of shorts plays based on the theme of daily life in England ( Cycle 2), and on the opening to Europe ( cycle 3) which will be filmed and not only broadcasted to the families but also to the different partners including the community of communes ( Quimperlé communauté). As the exhibition panels on Europe will be presented during the “international week”.This project involves 180 pupils from our school, their 12 teachers, the participating classes from the secondary school as well as their English and Physical Education teachers. The teaching of English in non-linguistic disciplines (particularly Physical Education) put in place during the implementation of the project will be renewable each year. The implementation of eTwinning exchange will also be renewed. The materialisation of such a project enables the implementation of new practises which generates a renewed dynamism and new work practises.
