The background of our school: The school is situated in a disadvantaged area. 60% of our students come from disadvantaged families, and most families live below the minimum standard. Our students' parents have only elementary certificates, though some are skilled workers. Most of the students are not motivated to learn. The exit exam results have been less than 40% for years of average Some students leave school before taking any kind of exams. The fulfilled project has changed a lot in the situation.
One of the most important results of the Advanced Language Methodology project that it has become a highway, a starting point of improvement. First of all it has changed the colleagues and students attitudes to be motivated to start applying for grants and learning. One of my colleagues has won an application as a result of this she took part in a training course in Italy. Our school also has won an application which gives opportunity for 9 cook- and 20 welder students to take part in a course in France for a month. This success is very motivating for our students and for the teachers as well. The most significant result of the Advanced Language Methodology course that our school has joined the international communities, the international circulation. Some of my colleagues started to learn foreign languages and the students are more motivated in their academic work.
The goal of the project also was to improve the level of exit exams. At the end of this term the result of the written exam in English is above 45%. Previous years it was between 30-35%. Another success: two of our students managed to take the intermediate state exam, which is also outstanding result among our students who have behavioural problems.
The acquired new methods and materials are useful for teachers teaching trade and Hungarian subjects as well, using the inspiring materials and methods. The library is enriched with authentic sources.
Our students' language competences have been improving with the use of new materials web pages, and methods. The new methods and materials have been written into the school curriculum.
We have a methodology and material collection to ensure broader sustainable availability. I have been sharing the acquired knowledge in my close and distant surrounding.
This course has helped our school with increased advantages.
