Model International Criminal Court

MICC is a simulation of trials before the ICC for 60 high-school students (aged between 15 and 19) and youth workers from Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden. During six days of the project that will take place in Krzyzowa (PL), participants are taking over the roles of prosecutors, defenders, judges and journalists and will deal with historical cases that had been heard before international tribunals (Nuremberg trials, ICTY and ICTR). The language of communication is English. With the help of the project MICC, the young participants are going to approach problems related to the protection of Human Rights, the basic concept of justice and the rule of law. MICC encourages young people to learn about Human Rights and their implementation within the frame of international criminal law. At the same time they are familiarizing themselves with domestic affairs of justice. Participants learn to raise awareness in their daily life and to understand themselves as part of an active European citizenship. It raises the European consciousness of the young participants as well as it underlines the achievements of a democratic and peaceful European confederation. Our participants will be strengthen in order to stand up for maintaining democratic principles. Through critical reflection and exchange, the young participants will learn to understand and accept different point of views. With its multinational character and teamwork, the MICC lays the foundation for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding between participants with different nationalities and cultures. In addition the MICC encourages to continue the international cooperation among all partner organizations. Youth workers got the possibility to exchange methods of non-formal education and to connect with each other. The mobility of young people and youth workers will be promoted. All project partners coming from five programme countries will contribute to an intercultural dialogue. With the help of the mutual project, a stable international network shall be created. It will serve as a foundation for the exchange of knowledge and methods in the field of non-formal education and will lead to a lastinig discussion about topics and research connected to Human Rights and the ICC. A short movie will be created by the pressteam, that will support a wide range of dissemination of project results and inform about contents of the project.
