Model European Union Zagreb 2016 (MEUZ 2016) is an international educational conference, designed as a combination of the simulation of the decision-making procedure of the EU institutions (European Parliament, Council of the European Union) and structured dialogues with decision-makers on the current issues in the field of youth and policies affecting young people. MEUZ 2016 will be held from 3rd to 8th October 2016. It is held fourth year in a row and will bring together 98 young participants (18-30) from 20 European countries. During the six days of the conference there will be a total of six structured dialogues with decision makers from national and European institutions, a workshop on public speaking and negotiations, simulation of the legislative process in the EU on topics of the two selected draft legislative proposals and a "Partners’ Fair" on youth employment policies, where the partner organisations will present the policies of their respective countries. The goal of this unique project is to enable participants to have their voices heard on the topics of youth employment, migration to the EU, environment protection, the EU reform, as well as on the making of the coherent EU foreign and security policy. The young people will not only have the opportunity to give their recommendations, share their opinions with decision-makers and experts from relevant ministries and institutions, but also get the opportunity to improve their skills (communication and analytical) - increasing their capacities for political activities in the future. The diversity of participants at the conference, from twenty countries, will largely contribute to the discussions and the exchange of best practices in specific public policies, that will be discussed in the simulation and during the structured dialogues. The participants will be assigned to the following roles: the Presidency of the Parliament and the Council of the EU, Members of the European Parliament, Ministers of the Council of the EU, journalists and lobbyists. The project will contribute to a better understanding of the functioning of the European Union (lobbying, coalition building, the role of the media and others.). Furthemore, it will result in improved negotiation skills of the participants, as well as an increased interest in and capacity for political engagement in the democratic process of the EU. In addition, young people will be able to influence decision-making by making concrete political and legal solutions to European problems. Overall results of the conference will be brought together in MEUZ 2016 Review Booklet's, which will contain all materials produced for the conference. Also, the organizing team will organize a follow up event in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Croatia. Topic of the event will be “Erasmus + and its added-value to the expertise, skills and employability of young people”.
