Mobilnost knjižničarjev za kvalitetnejše storitve
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Slovenian public libraries have experienced remarkable progress over a decade ago , when many of them were newly built or renovated, number of employees increased and so their specialization. Development was then directed by the generation of librarians , who are today over 55 years old and are still active . It is because of this extremely powerful generation, the younger employees somehow have not had a chance to get into positions that give the possibility to influence the system and take responsibility for the development of libraries and library system. Public libraries have recently been intensively changing. Services such as access to information , reading and cultural events that were once exclusive, are now offered by a whole range of providers . Libraries in developed countries have started offering new services, targeted information, based on changes of the users' needs. The transition to a library, in which the priority are needs and desires of users , project and team work , assessing the impact of services, requires a range of new skills and competencies of employees that education market in Slovenia does not offer . The mobility in modern European libraries, observation of their strategic policies and practices, will give participants a range of new skills and above all motivation to continue with informal education and share their knowledge with the professional community. Mobility Project is coordinated by the Institute Jara on behalf of the consortium, which consists of 13 public libraries from all over Slovenia . Two-week mobility in 4 eminent partner libraries will be attended by eight young librarians, two of them in the same partner library . They will be the experts , especially in the field of work with users (children, youth, elderly , ethnic groups ... ) and integration of new media and information technology in services and representatives of middle or senior management. In Slovenia , with the exception of the two largest libraries , the management staff also performs professional work , in particular, is responsible for professional development and thus participants will be either librarians or managers. Objectives of the project : 1 To get to know the hosting libraries , their innovative services , especially those that are developed in cooperation with users and integrate new media and information technologies . 2. To learn about the public libraries’ system in the host country. Participants will visit in addition to the host library and its branches at least one public library in a vicinity. 3. To learn about education and training of librarians and management, methods of advocacy that enable development of quality library services, supported by policy and local communities. 4. To establish contacts with hosting libraries and librarians for any further cooperation in the form of reverse mobility or possible joint projects in the future. 5. To train and motivate a group of younger librarians, potential future leaders, who will guide the development of Slovenian librarianship in the future. We expect the following short and long-term effects : - To start or improve international cooperation and action in the international environment . - New methods and practices of education (librarians and users). - Create synergies and placement of good practice in the operation of the participating organizations . - New knowledge or confirmation of good practice . - Innovative approaches to working with the targeted user groups will benefit the local communities in which libraries operate and the entire professional community. - Change in organizational culture in the participating libraries : a more dynamic environment , openness to innovation , knowledge transfer between employees. - Raising the personal and professional self esteem .
