Mobility, New Steps Forward.

Within ROC Albeda College, the international mobility plays a crucial part in striving to become an institution with a recognisable international appeal and image. Albeda College aims to be a recognisable, appealing, small-scale institution that provides qualitatively strong education. In partnership with businesses and our partners within education, we build towards an entrepreneurial vocational school in the city in our internationally orientated region. We stimulate the development of 21st century skills to sustainably deploy our students for the (inter)national labour market and challenge our students and teachers to provide appealing and innovative education that is practice-orientated. This objective furthermore provides the basis for the restructuring of our internationalisation policy framework that we will develop with the branches and the business industry the coming years. The key concepts are: 21st century skills, responsiveness labour market, career orientation and pedagogical expertise, and entrepreneurialism.The international mobility, organized by ROC Albeda College in Rotterdam consists of:1) VET learners traineeships in vocational institutions abroad;2) VET learners traineeships in companies abroad;3) Staff training abroad.After a few years of organising international mobility for individual students (individual traineeships), groups of students guided by teachers – whereby the amount of participating students has doubled over the years – and teachers and staff members, it is now time to take a few steps forward. These steps ought to enhance the quality of the international mobility.We, of course, want to build on the existing success factors, such as:- The International Placement Bureau within our institution;- The internal communication: the internationalisation network and the coordinators meeting (BPV obligated on the Curriculum); - The active involvement of an International Relations Coordinator and an International Relations Advisor (on behalf of the Executive Board);- The active involvement in fine-tuning the education to the EQF and the implementation of ECVET. Hereby, too, a staff member is (part time) employed. We furthermore take part in a project for ECVET;- The focus on, for the business industry in the region, relevant cities and regions in Europe. We call these cities and regions our “hotspots” for internationalisation;- The spread of the partaking students over the diverse levels: 1, 2, 3 and 4;- Improving the language skills of the mobility students, teachers and staff members;- Improving of the 21th cenjturyt skills of the mobility students, teachers and staff members;- EU partners who (in the long term) can provide excellent partnership and quality. However, we also want to take a few steps forward by implementing a new strategy which will be captured in a new internationalisation policy; Our objectives are:-The new qualification structure makes it possible to develop special optional subjects. We want to do this in collaboration with the regional businesses and partners abroad. It concerns optional subjects of which the knowledge and competences can especially be acquired abroad;-Via the group travels, teachers and staff members will gain more insight in fine-tuning the National Qualification Structures(NLQF) to the European Qualification Structures(EQF). We will actively follow this through;-The European mobility must be in further correspondence with the needs of the regional business industry. These businesses need to have more input when speaking of international competences. It is more than just language acquisition and we will thus look for a more concrete implementation. -The spreading across the levels is reasonable, but the spreading of the international mobility over the branches requires improvement. Hence: we want more spreading. We want to improve this by boosting the internal dissemination activities;-We will work with a new dissemination plan and a concrete dissemination schedule. The dissemination is adapted to the target groups. After a list of stakeholders is compiled, we will decide what information will be distributed and to whom;
