PROJECT
FINISHED
André Malraux Vocational High School is located in a pretty rough area of a so-called "Priority Education Areas". It includes a large range of different nationalities and underprivileged social classes. The Erasmus+ project 2014-2016 greeted a group of 20 pupils preparing a vocational BTEC National Diploma with vocational skills in sales, services, administration and services and help in daily life. 11 students experienced a mobility in London in 2015 and 9 in 2016. These students were attending the European section class except three of them who could experiment a mobility due to their motivation. We chose to go to the United Kingdom because it is near (our high school is 30 mn from Paris-Gare du Nord by train then 2 h 30 from London by Eurostar). Moreover, the language spoken is the same as the one practiced in the non-linguistic subject and it is also the most asked in the regional professional sector. The choice of London can be surprising because the British capital is huge and traveling in London is longer, more difficult and more expensive. However, the experience in that kind of town with many economical and cultural facets displays significant interest for our students and their futur employers. Moreover, this capital city offers a huge range of welcoming organisations matching our students'professional fields. To finish, the very strong pluricultural identity of this capital city matches with our high school's. Those mobilities lasted 4 weeks because it corresponds to the lenghth of the internships in France.
The main aims of this mobility:
for our students:
-to increase their standing,
-to gain more confidence in themselves,
-to develop some new skills such as mobility and adaptation,
-to arm them to enter professional life,
-to develop their citizen and European mind,
-to give them new professional skills,
-to give again meaning to study a foreign language seeing English as a communication tool and not as a compulsory subject.
for our school:
-to show our partners (institutions, companies...) the motivation and the implication of our students in their training course,
-to develop innovating experiences within the context of school success,
-to develop our exchanges with European professional partners,
-to reinforce the work done for several years to answer the schedule of conditions of our Unesco obtained in September 2010.
for our area:
-to offer to our area companies job seeking candidates who are better trained and better armed for employment world.
Our project main activities were especially focused on:
-the way and means of financing which proved to be useless if not fully considered,
-the detailed and minute organisation of our stay together with the help of our partner organisation Twin and with our experience in mobility programmes,
-the internal and external communication aspects (students, parents, supervisors, institutions, schools...).
RESULTS AND IMPACTS:
On the participants:
In 2015, on 11 participants, 10 passed their European grade and their Vocational BTEC National exam, 7 of them passed with distinction.
In 2015 as in 2016, all of those who took in the "International Mobility" exam passed it and they received a certificate from Ms the Director of Education for our area.
That experience in a European country allowed them to strongly gain more confidence. Furthermore, they gained maturity of mind. That experience also gave them the desire to enrol themselves in ambitious projects and other mobility projects.
On our school:
Those mobility projects allowed us to respect the schedule of conditions of our labels "Pôle Excellence" for the International opening and "REVE" and they also respected the main line n° 3 of the educational project of the school. Otherwise, our school image was made more attractive through the communication which has been done about our enrolment in that Erasmus+ programme. Finally, the number of students interested in this programme and enrolled in the European Section increased for the last few years.
On our partners:
That project allowed to propose on the labour market or to universities, students with higher skills and a great mature mind. For example, one of our former students was hired on a permanent contract as an hostess in Beauvais Airport. Two others, are studying International Business or Tourism in BTEC HND.
