Mobilité et Accessibilité Metropolitaine aux Régions Européennes du Sud (MARE)
Start date: Apr 30, 2005, End date: Jun 29, 2008 PROJECT  FINISHED

The three regions have identified mobility as one of their major challenges for development and international competitiveness. Valencia is particularly concerned about alternative mobility, links with the port, goods distribution and accidents. For Gênes, the priorities are mobility for the handicapped and the elderly, non-conventional modes of public transport, security and urban micro-logistics. In Lisbon, a coherent framework for action needs to be developed as well as a clear vision of the role of different modes of transport. Innovative solutions for public transport have to be devised. Overall objective / Objectif général The objective is to achieve cooperation in developing an overall strategy for metropolitan mobility to guarantee quality of life and contribute to sustainable economic development. It is necessary to develop new approaches, to introduce new tools and criteria for mobility in urban development, to manage public space in order to improve the efficiency of infrastructure and mobility and to adapt public transport. Expected results / Résultats attendus The results expected from the RFO are: preparation of mobility planning tools; experiments and pilot projects; preparation of innovative actions to promote alternative (non-motorised) forms of travel; creation of structures for the promotion of sustainable mobility and assistance/information for users of public transport; action to disseminate good practice; metropolitan mobility management skills. By way of example, plans exist for methodological studies, comparison of innovative actions and mobility planning. The long-term impact will be improved action in the field of mobility, promotion of more sustainable modes of transport and a contribution to quality of life, competitiveness and cohesion for metropolitan regions.
