Mobilität in der beruflichen Aus- und Weiterbildung
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

It is a well-know fact that the world of work is becoming more and more international. This is particularly relevant for Germany as an exporting nation. A consequence is that skilled workers, willing to make their career, are expected to be ready to work abroad, for instance in branches of their companies, with business partners or in foreign companies. The field of electronics is no exception; many of the German medium-sized or large companies are global players and have business relations with international clients. This is the setting of the project of Werner-von-Siemens-Schule, a vocational school in Cologne, Germany. In the next two years we want to give about 50 apprentices of our school the opportunity to do an internship fulltime in an electronics company in a foreign country. All participants will be apprentices in the field of electronics, either fulltime at school or in cooperation with a company (Duales System). During their internship in a French, Finnish or Hungarian firm, they will have learn to face and to handle professional situations in a foreign language environment. These experiences will help them later on to judge their professional and linguistic skills better and to approach similar situations more effectively in their future professional life. In the long run, they might even consider working abroad frequently or permanently to promote their career. From experience, most of the participants have only rarely been abroad so far and the fewest of them have already been in the country of destination. Quite a few of them have a migration background. Therefore, the exchange will also be a cultural experience for them, as they will get to know new attitudes and ways of living. Thus, they might even get a new outlook on life in Germany. In order to support this development, our partners will organize (inter-)cultural activities, such as common outings or meetings.
