Mobilität in Ausbildung und Beruf - Auslandspraktika in HoGa--Berufen
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Within the framework of German guidelines for external vocational training (Berufsausbildung in außerbetrieblichen Einrichtungen - BaE) and retraining, disadvantaged young adults receive training in hotel management. This training takes place within the dual system as defined by the German Vocational Training Act (Berufsbildungsgesetz BBiG) and will conclude with a degree awarded by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). Funding is provided by employment agencies in various Berlin districts. In addition to their standard training, participants also receive intercultural training, additional English and Turkish classes and a scheduled work experience opportunity in Antalya, Turkey, in order to promote their special biling. and bicult. skills. Our partner companies in Antalya have been selected according to the learning opportunities they offer, but also according to their need for qualified bilingual staff. This project aims to integrate young adults of immigrant or non-immigrant background into training programmes, work and society. It is designed to promote the participants’ special skills (bilingualism, biculturalism) so that they can further develop these into additional, mobility-enabling qualifications which will open up better employment opportunities in Germany and abroad. Furthermore, they will be learning how to navigate different cultures and languages with greater confidence. This combines the proposed mobility project's integration policy aims with the hotel and tourist industry's qualification needs, as the hotel industry - in Berlin, but also worldwide - is urgently seeking multiling. employees with intercult. skills. We also plan to delegate vocational training instructors to practical assignments in hotels in Antalya. The aim here is to allow them to gain additional qualifications (in Turk. cuisine and hotel industry, respectively), but also to further their intercult. and (social-) pedagog. skills with regard to working with disadvantaged young adults. Two work experience periods abroad have been scheduled for 2014 and 2015. In 2014, 9 trainees and 3 retrainees in hotel management will be taking part in an 11-week work experience in Antalya, Turkey. With the exception of the retrainees, whose training period is with 24 months shorter, the same participants will also take part in another 11-week work experience at the same hotel in 2015, this time focussing on different topics. The 2nd period will serve to enlarge upon previous experiences and to ensure a sustainable development of the participants’ knowledge, as well as their linguistic, intercult. and interpers. skills. With regard to teaching staff, we plan to delegate 2 instructors from the restaurant and hotel teaching department in 2014 and 2015. In 2014, 2 cooks will take part in a 3-week learning experience, learning to prepare Mediterranean dishes and expanding their intercult., language and (social-) pedagog. skills. In 2015, we also plan to delegate 2 instructors for a 3-week period. These will be employed in the kitchen or at reception. The instructors will only take part in one stay abroad each, so that this opportunity to gain further qualifications is available to as many staff members as possible. The host institutions in Antalya are 4-5 star hotels. Operational and technical support and expertise will also be provided by the travel company Thales Tour. The BWK is responsible for the programme and will maintain an office in Antalya for the duration of the entire work experience period, manned at all times by a staff member. The BWK has been working with each of our Turk. hotel partners in mob. projects since 2007. The current partner companies were first contacted by (internet) telephone and via email. More detailed consultations will take place in April 2014 as part of a preparatory visit. Our partners in Berlin are the participating employment agencies, the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the vocational training centre for the hotel and restaurant industry as well as our partner companies in Berlin. This mobility project promotes the improvement of intercult. skills, Engl. and Turk. language skills and in particular the development of key competences such as the ability to cope with stress, responsibility and reliability. Vocational training is continued in accordance with training regulation guidelines and expanded to include work in first class hotels during the tourist season. The participants’ independence and professional mobility are improved, as are their chances for employment. Their development will progress towards internat. mobility, enabling them to successfully compete within their profession in a globalised world, where these skills are becoming increasingly important. Teaching staff will receive additional qualifications and expand their intercult. and (social-)pedag. skills. The partner companies in Berlin and Antalya will have the opportunity to network and to learn from each other.
