Mobilisation des Diasporas économiques pour le développement des pays méditerranéens (MedGeneration)

Project in brief According to a study carried out in 2009 by the recruitment agency Talent Republic, 54% of students and high level managers from Arab countries which have been trained abroad (in particular in Europe) do not go back to their home country. How can we better mobilise this great reservoir of economic talents (still underused), by encouraging the return of project holders from the diaspora and accompanying expatriate investors wishing to invest back in their country of origin? In order to encourage Mediterranean governments to enhance the potential of economic diaposras, MedGeneration project intends to support local and national authorities in the implementation of public policies as well as targeted measures to attract this specific population, which has high standards in business relationships but remain culturally and emotionally attached to its country of origin. To achieve these objectives, MedGeneration will introduce realistic development strategies for the mobilisation of high-level economic diasporas around concrete action plans in three pilot areas (Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan). Specific objective To support successful investment and business creation experiences by mobilising expatriate talents and diasporas so as to foster local and national authorities in the implementation of dedicated polices and measures targeting this specific population Expected Results: • Raised awareness of governments and concerned actors about the potential of economic diasporas • Business environment improved in favour of entrepreneurs from the Mediterranean diaspora • Reinforced dialogue between representatives of the economic diasporas and relevant authorities • Set of services developed to foster the economic contribution of talents from the Mediterranean diaspora in their home country: coaching, resources centre, access to expertise and financing, targets strategies for investment promotion and entrepreneurship, incentives, personalised support • Investments and business creation by the Mediterranean diaspora increased in their respective home country
