Mladi Europe za starije i nemoćne grada Poreča
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Through the project "Young from Europe for the elderly people of Poreč" we want to connect our previous positive experience in working with volunteers with the young volunteers from Europe. During the implementation of our project, we will try to influence the development of intergenerational solidarity, to the informal learning of our volunteers, to familiarize with the environment and to intercultural learning. By volunteering at our institution volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about the very nature of the work in the Home for the elderly, but also a much wider range of work by participating in the activities that we will organize with other institutions and organizations in the town of Porec, with whom we usually work. Two volunteers, who opted for volunteering in our program and who recognized the value of our activities, will be available 30 hours a week to our customers in devising their free time in agreement with the social worker and volunteer coordinator. EVS volunteers will develop solidarity for the elderly people (with dementia, people with different types of disabilities, etc.) and will be included in the group and individual activities. By implementation of the project we would like to achieve the idea of volunteering will be recognized in our community and we believe that the socializing of the EVS and local volunteers will encourage the local volunteers, but also, the so far inactive citizenry, to active participation in society and the development of European citizenship ideas. Our positive experience in working with local volunteers is in the fact that after two years of active involvement of volunteers in weekly activities we can see the positive difference. Common creative workshops, celebrations, strolls, social/party games and other activities makes more significant the life for our customers and according to our volunteers they also feel more fulfilled by donating their time and learning from this intergenerational cooperation. By participating in the project, EVS volunteers will meet with other young people from of Porec. In the city of Porec there are active several organizations with their own programs in which the EVS volunteers will be able to include themselves. For example, the EVS volunteers could conduct workshops to learn their mother tongue or to be included in the workshop "I give-you give" which is conducted by the City library. By implementing the project in our Home, we want to achieve long-term involvement of the EVS volunteers in our activities and to become a recognizable environment that is open to the development of inter-generational solidarity based on common activities between young and old people.
