Mit HochDrei in der internationalen und politischen Bildung
Start date: Oct 1, 2016, End date: Mar 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Mit HochDrei in der internationalen und politischen Bildung" is based on a cooperation between DMK in Gdansk and HochDrei e.V. in Potsdam. Over 12 months one volunteer from Poland will support the activities of HochDrei e.V. in the field of international youth exchange and civic eduation. Apart fom that he/she is encouraged to carry out his/her own project which will be defined by him-/herself with the help of the experienced pedagogical staff at HochDrei. We appreciate the influence our volunteer can have on our target groups: Volunteers are living examples for social engagement and active citizenship. While working with young people during seminars and youth encounters they are able to inspire, to motivate and to tear down cultural barriers by talking about their own experiences and by showing what it is like to live abroad. Besides, volunteers can act as a peer reference person for our young participants as they are hardly older than them.Additionally, by working in an international team with volunteers we foster our own ability as youth workers to integrate new people, to respect the needs and thoughts of others and to share experience and knowledge. Volunteers can bring up new ideas, carry out additional projects and introduce changes and therefore contribute to the development of our organisation towards more diversity. We expect our volunteer to be able to identify him-/herself with the main goals and the pedagogical concept of our association, i. e. gender-equitable working, a participatory approach and democratic interaction. Openness and joy in working with children and young people with different backgrounds is important while we are offering a platform to experiment. Thus the volunteer should be willing to learn and to acquire new skills. He/she should also agree with flexible working hours at least on some days. We do not expect any experience in youth work or with methods of non-formal learning – however, motivation and a genuine interest in these topics are essential. Most of the work will take place at the seminar house during international youth encounters and seminars. The volunteer will have the chance to assist in organising and implementing our activities and doing follow-up work. There will also be some office-related tasks to take care of. Apart from this, we encourage him/her to develop his/her own project with our help and together with another young person: either a German-Polish youth exchange, a seminar or something else matching the work of our association. With the project we hope to create an impact on both the volunteer and the association: As far as the volunteer is concerned we expect an increased awareness of European citizenship, as well as better chances on the job market and within other aspects of life. We also expect political empowerment as a result of the expierence as a European Volunteer in our organisation. For ousselves as the hosting organisation, we expect a strong and active European partnership, also on a long-term level.Among our target group information about the opportunity to spend a year in another European country will be disseminated and the idea of voluntary engagement will be promoted. Since we have been working in the field of German-Polish youth exchange for many years now fostering mutual understanding between the citizens of the two countries is one of our main emphasis and can be the result of volunteer-exchanges between the two countries.
