“Mission Possible! – Together we are strong!” (Mission Possible!) is a youth project taking place from August 10 to 30, 2014 in the Europäischen Jugendbildungs- und Jugendbegegnungsstätte Weimar (EJBW). 30 participants from Germany, France, Hungary, Israel, Poland and Romania between 18 and 24 years old will deal with the topics solidarity and active citizenship. Especially 2014 as European Year of Remembrance is a good occasion to look back in time into First World War but also into the horrible time of national socialism . Besides the past should be understood as admonition and make the younger generation sensible and prepared in challenging times. More information and active democracy are the keywords here. The end of the East-West conflict marked by the fall of the Berlin Wall has gained actuality through the current crisis in Ukraine and will as well as the European elections 2014 be topic. “Mission Possible!” will contribute throughout the project thanks to the expertise end commitment of the EJBW referents to theoretically and practically making the young people beyond EU boundaries fit for themselves and others through solidarity. An important part of the project is the homestay of 6 days that will take place prior to the common project activities. The participants will have the opportunity to learn about the everyday life of an average German family, German culture and reflect and share about their own background. The participants are high motivated young adults who together with some Lions members initiated the project and encouraged other young people to participate. Especially young people from difficult backgrounds and social needs are welcome in the project so that solidarity will not only be a theoretical term but can also be exercised. Diverse propositions and approaches taking place in the project’s intercultural scope will strengthen soft and hard skills allowing the participants to work with them in their school or university as well as their social life. The focus on European topics will help the participants better familiarize with their role as active citizens in Europe and its neighbour countries. Numerous methods ranging from lectures, workshops, social activities, excursions to historical monuments, discussion with representatives of EU and simulation games will enhance the personal development of each participant individually as representative of their country and Europe. Precisely for the age range of the project’s participants mobility as important aspect of the EU2020 strategy and given the difficult economic situation in many countries in Europe and its neighbour countries is an central issue that they can treat in the project’s framework as chance and challenge. Throughout the project the participants therefore get the opportunity to think and test some ideas. The process enriches not only the single participant but also the group as a whole and the community. During the learning process both informal and non-formal approaches (after SALTO-YOUTH and Youthpass methods and criteria) make it easy for the participants to access the contents and focus on the project goals. For documentation and dissemination purposes, the participants will launch a homepage that they will continuously optimize during and after the project. This will be the place where reports, pictures, videos etc… will be made available for both the public and the participants afterwards allowing other to eventually follow the same way. Through publications in local and regional press articles and pictures will be diffused. All partners‘ websites will also present the project and its outputs so that the reference and importance of the project, the program Erasmus+ and the EU will be made reachable in a sustainable way additional to the presentations at education fairs and Lions conventions in all involved countries.
