Mission into the Future - A quest for sustainability

Mission into the Future (MF) draws together a community of schools with a common interest in global sustainability. The large team has been exploring 3 main topics: environment, economics & society through an eTwinning project. Early in January we met to discuss how to develop our project to increase its impact. Our joint vision is to give our students opportunities to develop their understanding from a European perspective thus broadening their current localised scope. Through a carefully structured programme of collaborative activities they will develop their knowledge of changing societies, economics, technologies & future solutions to shared challenges. With support from 7 national agencies we were able to have a preparatory visit in Silivri, Turkey where we focused on our detailed 2 year plan:Year 1 - What are the causes & impact of global warming? Introduction into the problems & issues surrounding global warming & exploration of renewable energy sources.Year 2 - What will my future role as a European citizen be? In depth study of the challenges facing each country & the political approach explored by each. Throughout the project students will undertake active research; the programme will consist of innovative & participatory methods for bringing topical issues to life. Each mobility will be triggered by a relevant site visit leading to practical activities e.g. scientific research & physical activity. These will provide further stimulus for intellectual debate & creative response within each school. The project will encourage a thematic approach from all schools which will focus on different aspects of sustainability e.g. renewable energy sources, recycling & the future way forward.
