Minority education in a intercultural field 2015/16
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The DKS is located in the border region to Germany. The basis of our geographical location alone offers us a multifaceted approach in the pedagogical work. A cross between the Scandinavian and the German Pedagogic is very special. In our institution, Europe is a part from the very beginning, we live Europe. On a regular basis, we have students from other countries who can compare with the people from Youth in Action. Cultural diversity is a normality in our work and we are a good example how diversity can enrich peoples life and exists side by side as equal backgrounds of people. The project "Minority education in a intercultural field 2015/16" gives our 4 volunteers from Germany and Hungary the possibility to broaden the personal horizon of experience and to support the work of our organisation “Deutsche Kindergärten Sonderburg” for a period of 12 months. Here, the volunteer will especially support the work in our bilingual kindergarden. To experience two languages in daily life, the exchange with the staff and the collaboration with the parents is a resource, which enriches. The easiness, with which our children are juggling between two languages, inspires to learn new languages on your own. The volunteer will also have the possibility to develop and to offer own activities. These will be planned and realized together with our assistance. The youngsters are learning through the themes and the program. Learning moments are: 1. having respect for each other, respect as person and opinion 2. personal development of the participants – presenting own talents 3. to increase the independence and self-confidence 4. working together within the staff and other volunteers 5. the learn to be responsible for a part of the program and to transfer it to an activity can be successful 6. the contact with children from an other country 7. the development of the language, dare to speak another language than your mother language 8. get the notion of the own culture, the value of it and the respect of other cultures and minorities The volunteer will have the chance to reflect on her own learning process and potential during staff meetings with the other workers. Moreover their mentor will talk with them on a regular basis about the volunteers aims for the time being in Denmark and the learning effects they recognize. Together they will fill out the Youthpass and try to summarize the learning outcomes under the key competences set up in the Youthpass. Our 4 evs was confronted with the bilingual daily life – which inspired them to learn new languages. The volunteers was in Danish language classes.(lær dansk – learning danish). Since our future rests in Europe, we would like to show that to our children from the very beginning on. As a matter of course, the volunteers was assisted by the trained staff. The volonteers was also in school lessons in our german schools in Sønderborg and Gråsten.
