BSW tourism is important axis for the Balkan economy,which should develop jointly. This is obvious from the strategic policy documents of the two partner countries. Part of the strategy of the project is raising public awareness for the mineral water,possibilities for development of balneology, spa and wellness tourism,environmental protection,quality and standard of life,human health for future economic growth and prosperity of the project. A characteristic feature of the mineral water of the region is the considerable diversity in terms of physics-chemical composition and temperature,flow and application opportunities. In the conditions of global financial and economic crisis in the world and in the border region -in particular, an updated assessment and measures to optimize structures and systems to better and full utilization of cross-border mineral water is crucial. An ecological scientific solve of this problem is possible using alternative solutions and sharing best practices, which will contribute to socio-economic prosperity of the local population on both sides of the border. The project strategy includes few main steps: mineral water,spa and wellness hotel capacity assessment, mineral water use guidelines and recommendations, business meeting events to meet the possible investors with the condition for developing on BSWT,training to improve the qualification of the existing cadre, review of the district programs and plans regarding to their harmonization and integration, cross-border round table for "BSWT". Creating of web site platform with integrated regional interactive map that will improve the public awareness about the mineral water and the possibilities for BSWT. Developing of a joint program for full use of mineral water in CBR will be a strategic document as a precondition for sustainable use and management of the mineral water and BSWT development. Achievements: The project envisioned and achieved the following results:- Comparative analysis of the hydrological and hydro-chemical characteristics of mineral water in the cross-border region;- Identified medico-biological and medico-social preconditions for balneology development in the region;- Reports for the condition and capacity of Spa centres and wellness tourism in the region;- Harmonized and integrated district programs and municipality plans in the cross-border region regarding utilization of mineral water;- Presented the best available practices for full use of mineral water for Balneology Wellness Spa Tourism – BWST to the investors;- Improved skills of students end employed in the field of BSWT. Improved qualifications. Improved quality of services and offered products;- Developed web site platform with integrated regional cross-border interactive BSWT map: http://www.wellspring-bgrs.eu/- Established two information centers BSWT in the region.The project was successfully completed in January 2014.
