Migration - Empowerment - Integration - Netzwerke

The M.E.I.N. project is developing a new concept of education for adult educationestablishments with migrants in Europe. This concept enables trainers in the area ofintercultural working to systematically direct individual learning processes with migrants, thereby optimising their integration process on an ongoing basis through continuouseducational advice as well as supporting their lifelong educational activity in selfmanagednetworks. An e-learning tool and an international trainers’ workshop are being used to train adulteducation tutors from six European countries (AT, BG, DE, ES, IT, LT) in methods ofcase management/empowerment, self-managed learning and intercultural education. They then implement and evaluate national opportunities for migrants to enhance theirkey skills in a number of educational establishments. Trainers thus function as“education managers” and, as well as their work with groups, they also supportindividual participants and set up relevant networks, in order to communicate othermeasures to the students as required. The training aims to improve the ability of migrants to learn to such an extent that theyare able to manage the process for themselves in a learning network and to carry onautonomously. It thus becomes possible for adult education not only to impartknowledge but also to plug the yawning gaps that have existed up to now betweenintegration courses and the ongoing exchange with the host society. The Europeancomparison enables the results of the project to be circulated throughout Europe. Adulteducation establishments at EU level can thus effectively do justice to their task of being“bridges for integration”.
