"Midnight Sun" is an eight day long European Youth Exchange (1.1) that takes place in the small town Nykarleby in Finland. The theme is healthy living, including both physical and mental health. Finland is hosting and Malta, Lithuania and Romania are participating actively. Total number of participants will be 34. The exchange aims to provide young people with a framework for a healthy lifestyle by focusing on the benefits of participating in outdoor activities and of choosing a healthy way of life. The programme is a combination of practical activities where young people work in teams trying out different sports and “close to nature”-activities complemented with workshops in different ways dealing with physical and mental health, self esteem and trust. The emphasis of the programme is to build self esteem, acceptance of other people, open our minds, learn about other cultures and value different countries. Trough challenges in outdoor activities we can compare our lives and the situations we live in. Activities are designed to give us exercise, making us think about healthy living, get close to the nature and to the Finnish culture and of course to have fun. We will for example go canoeing, have a midnight run in the woods, go to the sauna, do an adventure track, make food from our different countries, do youga, make music in the woods.. We learn by doing and use non formal education methods -Together under the midnight sun.
