Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Taking into account the specificities of the 2nd Primary School of Amfilochia which has a statistically high number of pupils with special educational needs and pupils from different cultural contexts an essential need to promote inclusive education Development Plan arises which aims at ensuring equal participation in the Curriculum for students which exhibit a high risk of exclusion and school failure in the educational process. Three teachers, the Principal and the School Counselor of the certain Educational District are the participants of the certain Development Plan. This Development Plan attempted to fully integrate students of the two classes in third grade during the specific school year. Therefore the purpose of this educational change was the development of inclusion practices through differentiated teaching which aimed at dealing with diversity as a challenge for learning rather than a problem that needed to be solved. Necessary adjustments and modifications of the Curriculum, the strategies and methods of teaching and assessing pupils were attempted towards this direction in order to facilitate equal access for all to the Curriculum and increase social interaction with their fellow students and to influence in the long-term the school culture in the direction of accepting diversity and responding to the high rate of special educational needs in our school as an opportunity to enrich learning. Teachers with strong motives for professional development participated in the mobility program that included the following courses: «Inclusive Teaching and Special Educational Needs», «Special needs children» «Using ICT to facilitate new developments in Teaching and Learning» και «Classroom Management Solutions for Teachers: new methodologies, effective motivation, cooperation and evaluation strategies». In the context of the Development plan during the school year inclusive practices were attempted to fully integrate educationally and socially all students of the two classes as the teachers of the mainstream classes and the special education teacher co-teach alternatively applying differentiated instruction and ICT practices with the assistance of the Principal. Therefore the impact of this Development Plan is to influence in the long-term the school culture in the direction of accepting diversity as an opportunity to enrich learning, participation and success for all incorporating at the same time the values of acceptance and solidarity rather than a problem that needs to be solved.
