The main aims of the Mex In Dance project are, on one side, i) promoting cultural exchange and cooperation between Mexico and different EU countries, deepening and exploring new ways of collaboration, fostering a multicultural dialogue and promoting European culture in Mexico and viceversa; and, on the other side, ii) the democratization of culture, approaching contemporary art practice to Mexican and European citizens, by exploring the relationship of the following elements: contemporary dance, public space and the community; and by using art as a tool for social inclusion and cohesion. Cultural exchange is expressed in this project through a bunch of activities in multidisciplinary fields. The activities are thought in order to bring closer the different festivals and cultural agents through the cooperation on the common field of dance and art and through the comparison of ideas, knowledge and way of working.ACTIVITIESA1. Exchange Program of Mexican and European dance companies in all participant festivals: 4 European dance companies performing at the Mexican festival and 4 Mexican Dance companies performing at 4 European dance festivals.A2. Free dance workshops for 150 Mexican and European dancers, by well-known European and Mexican choreographers and presented within the context of the participant festivals (in Europe and Mexico)A3. Development of the 2012-2013 Annual Dancing Cities Meeting and of an International Congress on “Art, Public Space and Community” in Mexico DF with participation of European experts and cultural agentsA4. Edition of the annual Dancing Cities Magazine (5000 copies distributed internationally) with a special focus on the results of the project and on Mexican contemporary dance.A5. Development of a video-dance workshop directed by an European video artist and aimed at Mexican video artists, (shooting and distribution of video dance using mobile technologies, geolocalization and an iphone app)A6.
