METODOLOGÍA DE PROYECTOS MULTILINGÜES INTERDISCIPLINARES
Start date: Dec 18, 2014, End date: Dec 17, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project "Multilingual and interdisciplinary project based approach" is the result proposal from a varied group of teachers from our high school, Gabriel García Márquez. We realize that there is an unavoidable need to improve our linguistic competency in the different European languages but more importantly, we need to update our teaching methodology. Our high school teaches multilingual secondary education, therefore languages are the teaching tool in most of the subjects we teach. The high school has been bilingual in French for a few years now and the next academic year it will also be bilingual in English. Nevertheless, many of our students are still being taught in "ordinary groups" From next year onward, those "ordinary groups" will also participate in the English programme. Nevertheless, we are conscious of the fact that it is necessary to help those students succeed in this new challenge. Thus, this new approach must improve their meaningful learning and increase their interest and motivation, which has been quite low so far. For all the above reasons, our proposal aims at improving the quality of our teaching from a practical and functional perspective and it is focused on the long term. We intend to create a school-based education project taking the project based approach of as a point of reference which has been so common in previous learning stages such as primary or pre-school education. This project based approach will be aimed at the first years of compulsory secondary education, for English bilingual and English programme students. What is more, the direction of the projects will turn our way of teaching into a interdisciplinary project, which will be featured characterize by means of cooperation and group-work among the different teachers in the varied subjects. This improvement in the quality of our teaching will stem from the following activities that are in accordance with the profiles of the participants that will take part in the exchange. • Observation of teaching practices in other schools. This will allow the participants to see how their colleagues work in different countries and exchange ideas with them. • Improvement of the communicative competence, attending training courses in different countries in the European Union. • CLIL methodology training which is essential for most of the teaching staff as they will have to teach their lessons in English or French. The aforementioned activities will be carried out by seventeen teachers, which means that 26% of the teachers that the school staff is composed of will be involved. We think that the long term benefits will be seen and developed through having meetings, publications in our web page and e-twinning will encourage a great part of the staff to take part in the project. In a multilingual society which is constantly evolving, like ours, we consider that updated training, team work and the exchange of ideas among teachers is fundamental when it comes fostering multilingual teaching appropriate for our students. For this reason, we think the immersion of the teachers in the target language is essential as a means of deepening our knowledge of new teaching methods. Among the expected results, the most immediate objective is the improvement of the academic results of our students, but without any doubt, there will be other beneficial results for the school and the teachers such as internationalization, the establishment of cooperative links with other European schools, the individual improvement of linguistic and teaching competences of the staff, the creation of a school project that can consequently improve coexistence in the school and the professional and cultural enrichment of not only the faculty, but also the student body.
