Metodologia CLIL nella scuola primaria
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

As stated in the School Prospectus, we want our student to become European citizens, open minded, willing to cooperate with everybody without prejudices, multicultural and multilingual in order to support and underline their European identity. This is why it is very important for our pupils to learn foreign languages, to come in contact with different cultures and compare different backgrounds, habits and make significant experiences of European citizenship. To support this global aim, according to recent studies on multiligualism, we started last year a CLIL (content and language integrated learning) experience at early stages too. We were the first school in our area to start with this kind of activity in the primary school thanks to a Comenius language assistant. We also launched foreign language projects in nursery, primary and secondary schools and now we are ready and willing to introduce definitively the CLIL methodology in our school curriculum. To reach this aim the school needs to train a group of teachers in CLIL methodology for the primary school through special CLIL courses abroad. The foreign language teachers will be involved in this in - service training activity, together with the headmaster, in order to become specialized teachers in CLIL methodology for the primary school colleagues. Of course a good level of foreign language knowledge is required but all the teachers selected are certifyied level B2 of CEFR., so during the training they can focus on methodology rather than language. After the training course they will be ready to support as Tutors our primary teachers in planning and leading CLIL teaching units in classes 4th and 5th. In this process the CLIL methodology specialized teacher will help and supèport the curricular teachers in primary school classes, since the most part of them have an average level of competence A2/B1 of the CEFR, not sufficient to led CLIL lessons. The main subjects of the curriculum involved in the CLIL activity will be art, music, phisical education and science. They will plan speaking activities, songs, role play and language games in order to involve all the pupils in a joyful way and to create a positive attitude towards the foreign languages. All the CLIL teaching units planned by the specialized teachers will be tested in the classes and after that evaluated by a special school commission and filed for the next school years. The school will create in this way a database of CLIL teaching units to help any other teacher in the future to start with CLIL methodology in his class. At the same time the primary teachers will be able to improve their level in English speaking and listening skill. As a result of the training of the teachers CLIL will be introduced in the School Prospectus as a generalized methodology since primary school.
