Methodology for Integrating Action Learning in the SME Framework

The project sets out to improve the overall quality of SME training in Europe. Targeting SMEs that are experiencing growth and wish to develop their international profile, the project partners will address the specific training needs of SMEs, including, for example, soft management skills training, negotiation and business communication and management of organisational change. A range of virtual on-the-job training methods, including e-learning, will be developed by the project partners. Particular attention will be paid to the identification of and responses to training needs in pre and post surveys of different training methods and attention will also be paid to the cross-cultural transfer of training methods. Drawing on established training practices, a range of training methods will be developed that incorporate formal and informal training scenarios. The training methods will constitute a model that aims to map critical situations faced by companies and provide a diagnosis of their training needs. These needs will be transferred into an integrated training model that includes classroom and web-based training. A guide for trainers will be drawn up to allow them to develop training packages based upon these new methodologies. The developed training methodologies will be piloted with 24 SMEs in the six partner countries. A project website will provide information on the results of the project's pilot programme with the selected SMEs. These SMEs will communicate with each other about their experiences via the website's 'e-meetings' zone. A profile of case studies and best practices concerning different training/learning methods will further be developed for dissemination.
