Methodisch-didaktische Kompetenzerweiterung
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The aim of the Fachoberschule Friedberg is to enhance the lessons in our bilingual classes as well as in all our foreign language classes. Furthermore, we would like to foster the management of crises and conflicts at our school. At the Fachoberschule Friedberg, bilingual lessons are offered to some students in the subjects Civics and History. With the second foreign language French or Spain (which can be chosen optionally), our students can get the “Allgemeine Hochschulreife” in the 13th grade, which allows them to study at every university in Germany. Our school would like to give its teachers the possibility to develop better skills in these fields by promoting their competences in methods and didactics and the speaking competences of our foreign language teachers. Our final goal is an improvement in the quality of teaching and tuition, so that our students will be more motivated and more interested in following our lessons, which - in the long run - hopefully produces better exam results. The improvement of our teachers` competences should be achieved by enabling our education staff to undertake training abroad. There they should boost their methodological competences, reflect on foreign language didactics, share their experiences with other teachers and receive valuable inspirations and maybe even classroom material for their lessons. This would also be achieved by language and cultural immersion, as the further training in these countries will be held in the foreign languages. Altogether, two Spanish teachers will each take part in a different one-week training course in Spain, one English teacher will visit a further training in bilingual teaching in a foreign country and our French teacher will visit a one-week training course in France. Moreover, a Spanish teacher will get the chance to work at our Spanish partner school in El Escorial. This will not only be a hospitation of staff, but our teacher will also be allowed to work with the Spanish students (aged 11 – 19) there. In addition, one teacher will have the possibility to visit our Dutch partner school in Alkmaar. This school (students aged 12 - 18) has successfully been giving bilingual classes for several years now, thus we hope to be able to learn from them. Also the headmaster of the Fachoberschule Friedberg will visit the school in Alkmaar for a short term to inform himself about the very effektive bilingual concept. Another focal point is to continue with our effort to expand the crisis and conflict management at our school by professionalising our teachers in this area. The long-term goal is to be able to effectively solve conflicts (between students, teachers, teachers and students and also between teachers and the school management board) at an early stage to reduce friction in day-to-day dealings with our colleagues and students. For this purpose one of our teachers will visit a one-week training course in Denmark.
