Meteo-hydrological Forecast and Observations for improved water Resource management in the ALPS (FORALPS)
Start date: Dec 31, 2003, End date: Mar 30, 2008 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project will improve and integrate instruments to support the management of environmental resources in alpine areas, in particular water. This goal will be achieved by adopting innovative techniques for monitoring and reconstructing the time evolution of meteo-hydrological processes. The competence areas of the partners cover uniformly the central-eastern Alps, where the territories of various countries and regions intertwine, thus requiring a transnational and interregional approach to issues faced by the project.Climatic databases of variables relevant for water resources availability will be collected and analysed. Pilot activities at selected target areas will be performed, such as use of microradars and numerical modeling of meteorological and rainfall-runoff processes. The above actions will be preliminary to operational activities.Evaluation of social and financial impact of improved meteo-hydrological information will stimulate the adoption of best practices of sustainable planning.
