Merg la scoala, sunt ACASA!
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Jul 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

"I go to school - I am at home" Project's starting point is one of the saddest reality of today's education. Many students, especially from poor environments are leaving school earlier than they should do that. A significant percentage of students who leave school before the age of 16 is represented by children from special schools. The Romanian Educational system is struggling to fight against this phenomenon and we, as special educators, have the power and the will to make a change. Students with special needs can become valuable members of our society - which we dream an inclusive society - but they need some help from us in order to achieve this aim.Our project aims to train a group of 20 teachers from our school to become specialists in the field of reducing early school leaving. These specialists will create new resources in our school and word can and should be spread as our school also acts as a Resources and Documentation Centre for Integrative Education. At this point there is a lack of teachers trained in early school leaving prevention and therefore we are not able to encompass the European Commission's target of reducing early school leaving under 10% by 2020.All teachers working in our school are specialized in working with children with special needs, highly qualified and trained. There are also specialists such as psychologists and speech therapy specialists who are part of early leaving school preventions plans in our school and who also need to be trained in order to improve their knowledge and therefore their activity. The aims of our project are:-to prepare a team of specialists in early school leaving prevention techniques-to develop prevention and management competences of our teachers in order to reduce early school leaving-to develop an Early School Leaving Prevention Plan-to develop the European dimension of our school by preparing an European Cooperation network-to develop language skills to the participantsWhat we intend is to prepare a short, medium and long term strategy to fight against early school leaving. Within this project, we plan to send teachers from our school to attend two different courses on the early school leaving topic where they will learn from different perspectives how to reduce early school leaving. They are expected to develop multiple competences, such as early school leaving prevention techniques, risk management, Emotional Freedom Techniques and Energy Psychology Techniques. We also plan to get to know different other European Educational Systems are managing early leaving school situations. Students in our school are coming from poor environments and from different ethnic groups: Romanians, Rroma, Hungarians. There is a mixture of family environments who sometimes are resisting to changes and progress. But what we plan to do is to turn the diversity into our advantage and to make it a starting point instead of a barrier as it is at the present time.Once the specialists team is prepared and trained we plan to create a Plan to reduce early school leaving to be implemented in our school at all levels. Activities will be planned and implemented in and outside the classroom as we think an exhaustive approach is needed. We also think we have to strengthen cooperation with parents and tutors as well as with Social Services in order to get to reducing early school leaving. School must become our student's second home and in order to do that we need to improve and enrich our offer in terms of well - balanced activities. But in order to be able to do that we need to discover what other teachers discovered lately and to learn from their experience, to find out what's new in European schools. Once we have succeeded in our work we will be able to disseminate what we've learned to other people and also to train other teachers to succeed in their schools with their students. This is precisely why we plan to offer to teachers interested in this topic a quality training through the experience and knowledge of the specialists we plan to train. In terms of results what we expect from this project is to create a specialists team able to produce a change in our school's way to deal with students willing to leave school. We plan to reduce the number of children leaving school with 2-3% in the first year after completing the training through the Plan for Early School Leaving Prevention. Teachers from our school will train other teachers in the city and in the County and they will help to reduce early school leaving in as many schools as possible. Parents will become more aware on the importance of sending their children to school and become more cooperative.Students will change their perception on school and will come at school with pleasure. They will be more aware on the importance of graduating in order to have a better life as adults. This project will raise our school's profile in the community through its results.
