Mentoring for Adult Education Leaders: Skills to Promote Participation, Gender Balance, Inclusion

To achieve ET2020 benchmark of 15% for adult participation in lifelong learning, one of the strategies should be improving the skills of those who can influence participation: adult education leaders.The aim of Lead-In project was to improve the skills of adult education leaders to lead in more people into the world of non-formal learning, i.e., to increase participation, especially, participation of men. The chosen method was mentoring (blended learning: meetings plus social network platform based e-mentoring). Lead-In outputs are: 1)Research report covering adult education approaches, marketing, gender balance issues in partner countries; 2)European training session of mentors; 3)Mentoring sessions for adult education leaders in 5 EU countries; 4)European network of trained mentors for adult education leaders; 6)Mentor training programme; 7)Mentoring platform for on-line learning and communication between mentors and mentees 8)Trained education leaders in 5 EU countries; 9) Methodological material ”Mentoring Programme for Adult Education Leaders: Skills, Strategies, Experiences" published in EN, BG, LV, LT, ES, SE languages.Methodological material includes mentoring programme, experiences of mentors and mentees from Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Spain and Sweden, comments on organization of mentoring, strategies for increasing participation in adult education, as well as for increasing participation of men, contributed by mentors, mentees and partner organizations.Future plans. Partners have organized meetings, seminars and a valorization conference to ensure sustainability of Lead-In results and to integrate them into education systems. Several partners are working on plans to further using Lead-In methodology in Nordic-Baltic region, to transfer the mentoring methodology and strategies for participation across education sectors (to VET sector in particular), use of mentoring platform in other contexts, and further use of mentoring programme and platform by mentors, mentees and organizations involved in the project.
