Mejoramos competencias lingüísticas en Europa
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

IES Lauretum is a bilingual school where 80% of the student body is a part of the Bilingual Section in the subjects of Geography, History, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Philosophy, Music, Mathematics, and Ethics, in which 50% of the curriculum is taught in the English language. The school is establishing exchange programs with other European schools and has participated in the Multilateral Comenius Association (currently developing the project Europack on my Back). One of our main objectives is to open our school to Europe, by seeking internationality, cultural diversity, as well as the development of the linguistic competencies of the student body in foreign languages. The school will need to cover the expenses of the methodological formation courses of CLIL for five of the teachers, two of whom belong to subjects in the bilingual program: Biology and Maths and three other teachers from the English department. This will allow them to acquire skills through a new type of bilingual methodology, gain new experiences in this type of methodological focus, refresh ideas to be able to better teach the subject in English, improve their language skills and reinforce the European dimension upon coming in contact with teachers from other countries and being able to improve the curricular contents in their materials, through creative techniques in the educational field. The requested courses are "Course for teachers who teach Science , Maths or Technical subjects billingually in English at Secondary level", "C.L.I.L. for Secondary teachers"", "Practical Methodology for teaching English at Secondary level", "Using Technology for teaching English"and "Creative Activities and Motivating materials for the secondary Classroom´. With these requirements the school will improve the quality and level of education as well as the level of internationalization. Furthermore, we are requesting a Job-shadowing opportunity/position for a teacher from the English Department in a public school in Ireland in order to become familiar with another type of school management, coming into contact with other methodological focuses and achieving language skills in the language of the country. Through the development and implementation of these activities, our school will increase the operating capacity to an international level, improve the skills in the school management and in the internationalization strategies, increase the resources to organize international projects, improve the programs of the distinct didactic departments putting in to practice more effective activities that will benefit the student body, improve the teaching methods, and will improve the working environment of the school. Our school will develop an eTwinning Project together with the school we partner with for the Job shadowing opportunity. The focus of the Project must promote the interculturality and the European dimension , with the development of language skills being one of the main objectives. The expected impact on the participants is: The exchange of ideas with other teachers from the same subject area, in this way achieving a greater enthusiasm in class; more effective teaching strategies; and increased motivation from the students. The hope is to get to know different and new ways of teaching the subject. The European dimension of the courses will allow appreciation of different attitudes and cultures of other countries. The courses will also allow for relationships to be established for future collaboration or exchange projects between students of other countries. Furthermore to obtain a higher understanding of the educational system in the UK and Ireland. And lastly to improve the English language skills, as the use of the new technologies in the education of English. We are hoping to be able to do activities to promote dissemination in our own school so that the entire educational communities may be benefited. We are hoping to have a positive impact on the center and a great dissemination on all of the faculty. The conclusions will be discussed in the distinct departments with the professors that belong to the Bilingual Program. This will take place during the teachers´regularly scheduled meetings. Furthermore, work groups will be formed and the school´s web page and blogs used in order to continue working in the various subjects. It is to benefits both the teachers with their daily teaching as well as the students motivation and new learning strategies. All of the material in this course will be used in the school in order to improve our competencies in the Bilingual Program Project.
