Mejora de las metodologías de la enseñanza de las lenguas al alumnado inmigrante en un contexto europeo
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The current Project is going to be carried out at “Cartuja” Secondary and Vocational Studies School which is located in the north of Granada capital city. The majority of the precints that make up this area are characterized by the coexistence of different ethnic groups , different religions and by a high gathering of inmigrant population. On the whole, it is a working area deeply affected by the economic crisis.“Cartuja” Secondary and Vocational Studies school provides an educational offer in compulsory secondary education, non- compulsory secondary education or high school, Basic Vocational Training, Intermediate Vocational Training and Higher Vocational Training. The number of students at the School these days goes beyond 500.Teachers have been working in the “Learning Communities” organizational model which is mainly based on inclusive teaching strategies. The main goals in our School Educational Project are employment in High Vocational training and reducing absenteeism and dropouts in Compulsory Secondary Education. From the 2013/2014 school year, our school has had the Erasmus Charter in High Education (ECHE). Currently, school year 2015/2016 we have two Erasmus projects + (KA 101 about teachers mobility and KA 102 on Vocational Studies). Our school faces the arrival of inmigrant students from different nationalities every school year. We have students from South Sahara, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, Nordic Countries, Britain, Pakistan, Palestine, Siria, South America … The coexistence of these different cultures in a same environment is the basis the interculturality whose main objective is the respect to difference and a positive assessment of itself.Out of the necessity of education for these students in a linguistic inmersion, we find it very important to create a programme which contains the main lines of action to be developed, taking into account an individual attention.Participating teachers need specific training in new technologies for the teaching of languages to improve the quality of education and promote the international dimension of the Centre by promoting contacts with other European centres for future projects. With the mobility of teachers to carry out both structured courses and job shadowing, we will manage to improve our language competence and acquire new working methods to help us implement improvements in education. The cultural, educational and methodological exchange that the current experience conveys will have an effect on the motivation and profesional development of the teachers taking part in it. It will also contribute to improve the methodological qualification of the teachers since the direct observation of other teachers’ work and the exchange of experiences during the period the activity is on will contribute to increase the personal satisfaction of the participants. Besides, it will create friendship networks among the teachers at an European level. It has been thought to use the possibility that job shadowing offers in collaboration with our Italian and Portuguese partners to be able to carry out a cultural enrichment from an European point of view. It will be used to improve the new teaching methods as well (CLIL, TICS, The teaching of languages to inmigrant students). In the same way, the attainment of structured courses aiming to improve the language competences of the teachers, the knowledge of innovative techniques and the practice in the learning of languages will contribute to improve the attention given to the inmigrant student. The fulfillment of the Project involves both the cooperation of the organization and the participants to reinforce the capacity of internationalization since it is a follow-on of the rest of the European projects we are carrying out in our school. This project will have a potential impact throughout the school community: in Parents associations, in primary education schools in the area, in neighbours associations , and in a local, regional, national or European standard. We will spread it through the School website, through different social networks (Facebook, Twitter...), Etwinning, through teaching staff centres, through the press...Plan, control and make progress towards the set objective: the European culture of inclusion and multiculturalism.
