Mejora de la competencia lingüistica en inglés y creación de material didáctico (CLIL)
Start date: Dec 18, 2014, End date: Dec 17, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

IES Fortuny is located in the center of Madrid and has a faculty of 50 teachers, 17 of whom are accredited in English, and around 630 students. Although IES Fortuny already has a successful bilingual English program, it aims to improve the linguistic competency of its bilingual professors by generating, sharing, and disseminating didactic material from CLIL for a period of 24 months. These professors are aware of the necessity to continue learning, improving, and implementing the latest technologies in order to foster the best classroom experience. Applying the classroom methodology techniques provided by CLIL would increase the sense of a European dimension in the bilingual classes, not only for the professors but also for the students and families throughout the educational community. In the first stage, the selection committee will utilize objective criteria to select the people that will be included in the mobile placements. If there are more candidates than available places, the criteria will give preference to professors that want to acquire English certification and language tools that will allow them to teach classes in English. This will improve the integration and cohesion of the faculty in the long run. Throughout the program there will be periodic meetings to decide upon and create materials that are made available to the public. There will be two activities related to the mobile placements: first, three professors will attend a seminar before the end of 2014 to be educated on a theme related to the project and secondly, in the summer of 2015, ten more professors will attend structured training courses in the linguistic tools and methodology of CLIL. There will be attendance sheets and summary reports published to the webpage along with finished works. E-twinning will be used, especially in the projected mobile placements, which conveniently coincides with the K2 that IES Fortuny wants to coordinate. Informative posters and brochures will be designed, and information will be dispersed by any elecotronic means available to us: the webpage for the institution, email, and any blogs or other platforms that prove useful. IES Fortuny will inform the faculty, the advisory board, the parents association, and the municipal district of Chamberí of this project, and will ask them to hold an informational session in the primary schools that are association with IES Fortuny. The activities will be evaluated internally and externally using objective guidelines. Internally, the activities will be evaluated by the professors that comprise the team. Externally we will ask for the collaboration of the English department, the bilingual coordinator, and the Fulbright language assistant, and will use questionnaires and target studies designed for this purpose. These evaluations will be made halfway through each school year, at the end of both school years, and at the end of the project. The experiences and skills that would be gained as a result of the participation in this training program (including the increase in the linguistic proficiency, knowledge and use of the CLIL methodology, as well as the utilization of the tools and technological programs and software) would have a great repercussion directly related to the development plan of IES Fortuny. This would promote teamwork and an environment of collaboration which would allow for the joint production of classroom materials. The shared use of these materials would foster a closeness and understanding between the groups of the bilingual section and those of the bilingual program, for the corresponding faculty members as well as the students.
