The Elementary Public School of Primary Education Leon Felipe is a school located in the city of Elche, Alicante, which has an enrollment of 497 students divided into two courses per educational level.
Since the academic year 2013/2014, the center takes part of the Plurilingual School Network of the Valencian Community, with the subjects of English and Arts and Crafts at the first and second cycle of Primary Education being taught in English, besides the proper area of English at all educational levels. According to the Educational Project (PEC), the Multilingual Project will be completed during 2015/2016 with the inclusion of Arts and Crafts in English at the third cycle of Primary Education.
In the CEIP León Felipe Centre, we carried out an Erasmus + project, in where its main objective was improving the quality of teaching and learning English through integrated language and content implementing the CLIL learning method. This methodology is essential to teach in English language other non-linguistic areas, representing one of the short-term needs of the school center.
In this project participated three teachers from the Centre that have the B2 level in English according to the CEFR. They are the ones who are in charge of the English curriculum at the foreign language areas, so they will need training in this topic. Two of them are specialists in English Language and the third has the qualification required to teach in this language.
In a first phase, the project submitted by the CEIP León Felipe involved the completion of a course in the UK on CLIL methodology in order to obtain the main important elements of the method. In a second phase, once the mobility was over, started the exchange of ideas, experiences and methods with teachers from other countries. Finally, we carried out in our Centre eTwinning projects together with other European schools in order to work and develop the skills acquired in the training course.
Through the project, participants developed and improved personal and professional competence in the English language and the application of new teaching methods related to the English language and teaching content in the classroom in this language. The use of knowledge, experiences and projects shared with other teachers, help our educators to promote an international dimension in the school and take part in educational projects. The development of intercultural awareness and integration of new technologies in teaching are also important results achieved with this project, all in the interest of increasing the quality of teaching and learning, and the academic results of our students.
