Meetings with languages
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Apr 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project “Meetings with languages” (MWL) is a KA1, European Voluntary Service initiative of Millennium Center (MC) organization from Arad in west Romania, in new Erasmus plus programme. MWL is a direct result of another EVS project implemented successfully by MC organization, called “Meetings with History”, which discovered a need of citizens of Arad for learning foreign languages. Because one of the crucial competences which make people more competitive at labor market, is learning foreign languages (being on the same time one of core priorities of Erasmus + programme), MC organization decided to dedicate new EVS project to young unemployed people, without proper experience to get employed or early school leavers. MWL project gives this target groups a special opportunity to get trained and verify gained knowledge through practical experience of being non-formal teacher of languages. The learning process of EVS volunteers during 5 months long stages in Arad Romania will constitute a full circle from the training on non-formal methods to the implementation by EVS volunteers of a series of non-formal language workshops for 3 target groups: kids (0-18 years old), youth/adults (18-50) and elderly (50+). EVS volunteers within MWL project will have also opportunities to learn Romanian language at very basic level, Romanian culture, integrate better with local neighborhood on the basis of interacting with all target groups’ representatives. All competences gained by EVS volunteers during MWL project will be described in Youthpass certificate and Europass tools of recognition which will make EVS volunteers more competitive at labor market while local target groups will have opportunity to learn at least 2 languages, in conformity with EU goals in that area. More than this, MWL project is an answer to the need for learning languages promotion and linguistic diversity in Europe. The promotion and dissemination in the case of our project will be done through one of the basic outcomes of the project: eBook “Meeting with languages”. Within our project we hope to lower the main barrier of accessing the EU education which is obviously the lack of language skills. Finally, our project is the missing link between the start of Erasmus + programme and the desired solution to provide online linguistic help to its participants. On the same time, our project will be the first step underlining in E+ era the importance of learning languages. The complete and complex set of tools used to promote the project will take care of the process of spreading the news around.
