"Media Literacy Training: We can Change the world by changing the way we make it visible"

The aim of this project is to promote the concept of European citizenship, intercultural dialogue and creative non-formal education practices through the introduction of the potential of media literacy.Media literacy is a new approach to non-formal education, addressing contemporary realities òf young people, that provides them with a framework for accessing, analyses, evaluation, creation and participation through mediation of messages in variety of forms.The focus of the training course will be the promotion of cultural diversity and the reflection of the concept of European citizenship - what defines the concept of active citizenship and how much is Europe portrayed as inclusive or exclusive.The project will start in August 2009, and the activity will be held in November 2009 in Belgrade, Serbia. The objective of the training course will be improving skills and competencies of the volunteers/youth workers/ trainers from EU and neighbouring SEEU and EEC countries for delivering courses and workshops in youth media activism and media literacy.The activities will be based on critical examination of traditional and new media as tools for fighting prejudices and xenophobia, as well as on the improvement of participants' understanding of the creative potential of media as devices in promoting European awareness - respectively through dissemination of good practices and promotion of youth activism, human values, cultural diversity and social awareness.The practical implementation of the training will be focused towards capacity-building, exchange of experience and good practice and introduction of innovative practices that combine interest in European awareness, media and youth work.
