Media as Partners in Promotion of Volunteering

Media influence and messages shape public opinion and thus media engagement is vital in raising awareness on benefits of volunteering. Training course "Media as Partners in Promotion of Volunteering" will provide a non-formal learning platform to 24 project managers from Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria and Germany for gaining knowledge about communication tools and creating powerful messages for spreading the word about importance of volunteering. Main aim of the project is to learn to use public relations and social media tools for promotion of volunteering in local, national and international level and to exchange best practices in promotion of volunteering and cooperation with mass media among the participating countries. Through theoretic inputs and practical exercises learners will gain understanding about media production, building media relations and fundamental public relations concepts and tools such as press releases, pitch letters, organizing media events, press conferences, planning social campaigns. Participants will explore also specific challenges such as how to ''sell'' to media stories about volunteering and related social issues, how to make the media consider regular covering of work of volunteers and how to present specific professional information in a form that corresponds with news values and is understandable and attractive for public. Training course will be hosted in Macedonia, in multi-ethnic Struga town.
