Mechanik i ślusarz alternatywą dla zagrożonego bezrobociem zawodu górnika w Rudzie Śląskiej.
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Nov 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Zespół Szkół nr 5 is located in a district inhabited by working class families. Our students' educational needs have been defined. We know they are interested in increasing their competencies. That is why we want to provide the means for them to gain vocational, communicative and cultural competence. By doing that, we will help them get a better start on the labor market not only in the region and the country but in Europe as well. The project "Mechanic and toolmaker - the alternatives to mining, a job with a high risk of unemployment" is the school's attempt to meet our students' needs. This project is a part of our school's European development plan. The international internship offer has been prepared for 20 students specializing as miners. As our partner we chose the company Vitalis Betreuungsgesellschaft für Modellprojekte mbH founded in 1997, which specializes in organizing internships for students of technical schools and vocational schools. The participants are students coming mostly from families of miners with average wealth. They often have difficulties with learning, lack motivation to gain more knowledge and increase their qualifications. The current situation in the mining industry further heightens their negative attitude towards education and lowers their self-esteem. The basic goal for the participants is to learn how to be proactive, self-motivated and to have the skills to invest in themselves. The realization of the project in an international environment aims at increasing students' practical skills and social competence as well as making them more attractive on the job market. The participation in the project will allow the students learn the skill mobility as in the ability and the tendency to retrain. The training program has been prepared in detail with the host organization. By working in the international companies the students will increase their vocational and foreign language skills. They will become more aware of the conditions imposed by employers. Raising their self-esteem which will help them move around the job market is of equal importance. This will translate into a higher standard of the school's vocational education, a broader offer for students and a raised prestige in the local community. The participants of the project will have the opportunity to undergo training in conditions that cannot be provided by either our school or local companies. In addition to the vocational learning in renowned enterprises, the students will learn about business of German companies, their structure, management, rules of communication, characteristics about particular jobs, and different standards of carrying out supervisors' instructions. Over the course of the training they will also discover new methods of building a company's image and new marketing strategies. An important benefit for the students will be the opportunity to see the latest technologies, tools, methods of production or services and completing official documentation used in their field. During the training, the students will compare the German and Polish industry practices and to verify their theoretical knowledge in the business practice. The students participating in the traineeships will receive valuable certificates attesting their vocational and communicative competence. We shall make our best effort to make all the necessary preparations, logistics-wise. A selection committee will be formed, with the school principal in charge. The whole project will be supervised by the coordinator. A series of courses preparing our students for the project will take place. The courses will cover: the practical use of the German language, technical knowledge of the jobs, the basics of entrepreneurship and the cultural knowledge, and finally the pedagogical and psychological counseling. We are planning to continuously share the results of the project with the local community, e.g. via the local media. The popularization of the project's results will be shared with the community through: films, photographs, presentations, memories posted on the school website, school papers in display cases, parent-teacher conferences, school assemblies. Moreover, the information about the skills gained by the students will be used in the school's promotional material, during open days and other school events. Evaluation will be conducted on a regular basis. A variety of evaluation tools will be created (surveys, questionnaires, talks, interviews) that will allow to assess the usefulness of the project and its impact on the quality of the following actions. The subjects of these evaluations will be the participants, their parents as well as other students of our school. The school coordinator as well as the current project team will utilize the experience of the first Erasmus+ project for electricians and forwarders. The authors of the project assume it will stimulate the interest of the whole school community in the future.
