MAWA Partnership
Start date: Dec 3, 2012,

The MaWa Partnership project has come about through the development of a partnership between A LEAP, in Wales, and AYISE, in Malawi. Despite the radically different contexts of the two organisations, the aims and ethos are very similar. Both organisations support the most disadvantaged young people to promote urban/rural development in the communities they live in.The EVS project will involve 10 volunteers from the most disadvantaged communities in Wales providing one month of voluntary service in Malawi. They will work with staff and young people there to develop the quality of support systems for youth activities and the capabilities of AYISE and other civil society organisations in the youth field. On their return to Wales they will share their learning to help develop youth support systems and the capabilities of civil society organisations locally. To achieve this objective, the activities have been designed to involve unemployed young people as EVS volunteers, in supporting their peers in Malawi, also facing unemployment and fewer opportunities, to deliver urban/rural community development projects that will help to mitigate some of the underlying causes of youth unemployment.
