Mathematics in the Making

“Mathematics in the Making” - acronym MiMa - will create a teaching methodology and a Tool-kit to help elementary school students in developing a stronger interest and competence in maths, also enhancing their literacy competences, social and civic skills, and so contributing to increase students’ chances to success in school and in life. Partners from IT, HU, UK, DE, PT will work together to produce: • Collection of good practices; • Transnational methodology for teaching maths to kids 8-10 years-old, based on laboratories and including 10 hands-on activities, accompanied by a protocol of validation, guidelines for its implementation, a DVD with video lessons of 30 minutes;• Training course for maths teachers of 12 hours, held by partners, and a ‘tips and tricks’ document based on teachers advice;• Field-testing of the methodology through laboratories organized in elementary schools of each country;• Exhibitions of the maths products in each country, in which students will becomes guides for the visitors, explaining the process of making the objects;• Final publication with videos, photos, public documents and reports elaborated during project activities, including monitoring and evaluation final reports, produced in electronic format and in paper;• Establishment of an informal network of partners that will promote the results of the project after its end;• Agreement for the use of the project’s products and results.The impact of the project will be ensured by focus groups, dissemination events, a web site, exhibitions, the creation of a stable informal network and a formal agreement on the exploitation of the final results will be used to raise awareness in all stakeholders, directly and indirectly beneficiaries of the project, and to spread information in the communities about the project’s activities; all partners will cooperate in the execution of the dissemination and exploitation strategies.
