Matching Skills in the Knowledge Society – MASKS

The MASKS project will address the need for new professional profiles in the Social Services sector (services providing support to diverse groups either as a part of the public or private sector) meeting an identified need to better match the skills being provided by education and training with those currently required by the sector. Activities will include an initial analysis of the mis-matches that exist between workforce skills and the requirements of jobs in the Social Services sector; development of a method for the identification of mis-matches between skills being taught and those actually required for the job; design, development and introduction of a dynamic web tool ‘Matchmaker’ for the just-in-time matching of skills with job requirements; design of a methodology for the transfer of the developed ‘Matchmaker’ web tool to other sectors; creation of a virtual learning community for the Social Services sector and creation of a ‘Certification Model for emerging profiles in the sector. A series of pilot trials will be held in the partner countries with resulting recommendations influencing any final development activity. The project will result in a series of studies on ‘existing qualifications’ and on ‘existing employment opportunities’ in the Social Services sector across the partner countries, to include a comparative analysis; a report on interviews undertaken with employees in the sector; a project management procedures manual, an outline certification procedure and a web portal, to include a skills database, a virtual learning space and the developed ‘Matchmaker’ web tool. All products will be developed in all partner languages and will be made available via the project web platform. Dissemination activities will include production of project specific publicity materials (leaflets, posters) and the hosting of a series of information workshops in each participating country whereby the end project results will be presented and potential impact assessed. A final international Open Day is also foreseen.
